Dr. Robin Wilson
Dr. Robin Wilson is the Founding Principal of the Kansas City Neighborhood Academy. She started her career as an elementary school teacher in Indianapolis, Indiana. Concerned with the social–emotional needs of her students, she went on to pursue a Masters in Counseling and eventually moved into a Dean of Student Services role within her district. This role outside of the classroom allowed her to see firsthand the struggles many new teachers faced as they worked to meet the needs of students from diverse racial and socio-economic backgrounds. Fueled by this, she went on to earn a Ph.D.in Elementary Education and then became a college professor focused on cultivating teachers to teach and lead in urban schools.
Dr. Wilson comes to Kansas City by way of Memphis, where she was the Executive Director of the Memphis Teacher Residency (MTR). Through her work leading MTR, she has not only crafted and led one of the highest-performing teacher preparation programs in Tennessee, but has also demonstrated how these programs can partner with and strengthen neighborhoods and communities. At KCNA, she is working to build and grow a neighborhood school whose emphasis on literacy, STEAM, and project-based learning provides a world-class education and novel experiences to children in the Kansas City urban core.
